Route Difficulty
Fayetteville - Ozark: this is a challenging day ride if you aren’t accustomed to the climbing in Arkansas. Some of the climbs are pitchy, and without the right gearing might necessitate “hike-a-biking.” Resupply is pretty scarce along this route, which is why we adapted it from the original “supported” version to a self-supported version that swings by Dollar General.
During the summer months, it’s important to ensure you have enough water for several hours of ride-time.
In addition, cell phone service can be spotty. You’ll get a bar or two, but when you drop into the hollers and valleys, you’ll most likely be without cell reception.
Where to eat & stay
Byrd’s Aventure Center is an ideal spot for an overnight experience. Situated on the Mulberry River, it’s a great place for cooling down after a hot ride, fishing for native smallmouth bass, canoeing/kayaking, hiking, or simply relaxing under the shade of the trees.
Byrd’s has showers, bathrooms, wifi, a small general store for resupply, and electrical/primitive campsites for overnight options. Their restaurant offers southern-style cuisine, but be sure to check their seasonal hours before you visit.
