The final day of the journey sends you south along the brand‑new Delta Heritage Trail, a true rail‑to‑trail conversion stretching 84 scenic miles. You’ll cross both the White and Arkansas Rivers on repurposed railroad bridges that now link the 10,000‑acre Trusten Holder State Wildlife Management Area.
Along the way, make time for the Rohwer Heritage Site—a somber and important stop where thousands of Japanese Americans were incarcerated during World War II. It’s a powerful reminder that our nation’s history includes moments that challenge our ideals.
From there, keep rolling as the trail opens into a fast, paved levee system tracing the Mississippi River. This final stretch delivers you straight into the heart of Arkansas City. Once a bustling port town before a historic flood altered the river’s course, Arkansas City is now home to the Delta Heritage Trail headquarters—well worth a visit as you wrap up your adventure.
