Levee Life sign in Arkansas City

Day 5 - Helena to Arkansas City

Oct. 10, 2026

Total Miles: 96

Elevation Gain: 951 ft

The final day of the journey sends you south to Gillett, home of friendly people and the legendary coon supper. From there, you’ll cross the Arkansas Post Canal and spend a short time riding alongside the Arkansas River, before hopping onto the Delta Heritage Trail just north of the Yancopin Bridge, which spans the river.

Along the way, just off the Delta Heritage Trail, make time for a stop at the Rohwer Heritage Site—a somber and important place where thousands of Japanese Americans were incarcerated during World War II. It’s a powerful reminder that our nation’s history includes moments that challenge our ideals and deserve reflection.

From Rohwer, keep rolling as the trail opens into a fast, paved levee system tracing the Mississippi River. This final stretch delivers you straight into the heart of Arkansas City. Once a bustling port town before a historic flood altered the river’s course, Arkansas City is now home to the Delta Heritage Trail headquarters, making it a fitting and meaningful place to wrap up your adventure.
